Let’s talk about farmers’ day which is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh who is also entitled “Champion of India’s peasants” by many historians. But what is the reason behind his glory way?
Enlightenment on the life of Chaudhary Charan Singh:-
He was born in 1989 in a middle-class peasant family in Noorpur, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Science in 1923 followed by Post-graduation in 1925 from Agra University. He was also a Law practitioner and an active participant in the country’s freedom struggle.
Being born in a middle-class family Chaudhari Ji was deeply connected with the farmers of the country. He was the brain behind the land reforms that changed the face of agriculture in the biggest agrarian state of the country, Uttar Pradesh and India as well.
Works done by Chaudhary Charan Singh
He had worked on many parts but some of his works are:-
• Notable Debt Redemption Bill 1939, which brought showers of relief to farmers who were indebted to money lenders it also reflected positively on numbers of suicides committed by farmers.
• The Land Holding act 1960, which came into force while he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the law insured uniformity in the state by tapping the landholdings of an individual.

• He also worked for the Zamindari Abolition act 1950, while he was agriculture minister of Uttar Pradesh.
He left his mortal body on 14th January 1980. A memorial dedicated to him was built at Rajghat and called as Kisan Ghat.
In 2001, the Government of India declared 23rd December as Kisan diwas or Farmers’ Day in honour of his great works.
